Tong De Veggie 同德素食 (Hong Kong, CHINA) ★★★☆☆

Vegetarian food was something I grew up with since a very young age because my mom is a big fan. Still recalled my childhood days lining up in front of a very popular vegetarian restaurant near Ladies' street (女人街). It wasn't the most pleasant experience (the lining up part) but the food itself was remarkable. Although I don't eat vegetarian food as often anymore, I still enjoy my occasional vegan meal from time to time.

After a really big lunch at Gaddi's, the timing was right to check out one of the newest Chinese vegetarian restaurant in town, Tong De Veggie (同德素食). This place is famous for its contemporary take on vegan food including sushi, roll and tempura, all made with vegan ingredients.

Sweet and sour pork with strawberry and dragon fruit - Traditionally, the sauce was made with tomato and a bit of pineapple but the chefs here decided to change things around by using strawberry and dragon fruit instead. As a result, there's a bit more balance between sweetness and acidity. But the pork cubes made with bearded hedgehog mushroom (猴頭菇) was a little too spongy.

A complimentary green bean soup with seaweed helped to wrap things up.
