Maple Tree House (Seoul, SOUTH KOREA) ★★★☆☆

It's always a challenge to find a good charcoal grill place in Myeongdong that offers good quality meat at the same time. Tired of feeling out another new place, I decided to go back to a familiar venue tonight in Maple Tree House.

In case you haven't heard of Maple Tree House already, they are a highly touted charcoal grill restaurant at the Hamilton Hotel in Itaewon that is very popular among the locals. But for whatever reason, their Myeongdong branch never really got the same love.

What I like about this place is that unlike most traditional barbecue houses in Seoul, it's very clean, well-lit and doesn't have the charcoal smell all over the place. On top of that, their selection of Hanwoo beef and Jeju black pork is quite decent and reasonably priced. Those were enough reasons to lure me back.

It's been 2 years since my last visit and I can see that they had a facelift, a very minor one with all these green bottles.

I've always enjoyed their banchan, the tiny little dishes that was served before the meat. This tofu in particular was so nice.

Here we go.......

I thought the premium Hanwoo beef (₩34,900) was very good this time.

Perfectly grilled and I've added some garlic sauce to eat along with the lettuce. That was mouthwatering.

The black pork collar from Jeju Island (₩16,500) was alright. A little rough on the outside.

As usual, dinner at Maple Tree House ended with a traditional bibimbap or mixed rice with vegetables (₩9,900).
