Hotel Palazzo Barbarigo Sul Canal Grande (Venice, ITALY)

After an amazing lunch at Le Calandre in Rubano, we set our sight on Venice and finally arrived in about an hour's drive (despite some problems with our GPS). Following the instructions provided on Hotel Palazzo Barbarigo's official website, we took the waterbus to "San Toma" Station. Everything went well according to plans but here came to the toughest part - actually finding the hotel!

Having read a lot of online reviews about the hotel, we knew what we were up against. The hotel is "hidden" behind a narrow back alley so our first task was to find that alley.

We got off San Toma and started looking for this alley but at first, no luck. After at least 15-20 minutes of walking back and forth, we finally found this small alley named "Calle Corner" and although in disbelief, we decided to go in and check it out. There was a strong odor which could only be described as urine coming from the ground but that didn't stop us. At the end, all the hard work paid off as we found this red sign at the other side of the alley that said "Hotel Palazzo Barbarigo". We could breathe a collective sigh of relief at last!

Apart from the location of the hotel entrance, everything about the hotel seemed to be perfect. Check-in was quick and easy. The hotel itself  also looked as good as advertised; great contemporary design with a mix of Venetian influence and modern touch. We had a room with a canal view and it was good just for photo-taking alone.

Breakfast was included and it was a bit on the light side but that's alright. There were plenty of good food around here.

The location was unbelievable as it was only a 10-15 minute walk from St. Mark Square as well as other major attractions. There are also a few little grocery shops right around the corner of the hotel; making things a lot easier for us.

We had a great time staying at Hotel Palazzo Barbarigo and would not hesitate to recommend it to our friends. One point was deducted because of the back alley and odor but other than that, it was a memorable stay that would be remembered for a long long time.
