After a new year holiday full of house parties, all I wanted on new year's day was to catch up with my sleep. It was until late afternoon that I started hitting the ground running at the Elements Shopping Mall. I wasn't particularly in the mood for a late lunch so perhaps going straight to afternoon tea at TWG Tea instead!?
It looked like that TWG Tea, the luxury tea brand from Singapore is no longer TWG Tea these days as they've changed their logo to "Tea WG" following an unfortunate trademark dispute.
Oh yes, we were supposed to have tea but what we didn't know was that Tea WG Salon & Boutique also boasts a pretty comprehensive all-day food menu that looks fairly attractive to us. So let's hold that thought of having afternoon tea for a moment here.
But first a slice of bread to start our afternoon off. I normally don't write about bread but I am a different man with an absolutely empty stomach today. This was seriously good. A little oily but yes very tasty. Won't mind having another slice of that at all.
Honey cajun chicken salad ($188) - Romaine lettuce with shaved parmesan cheese tossed in a lemon bush tea infused vinaigrette, accompanied by grilled honey cajun chicken fillets. Thought it would be a great idea to start the afternoon with something green. Pretty good taste and nice presentation too with quail eggs and cherry tomatoes.
Duck ragout fettuccine ($208) - I elected to have as little meat as possible so this dish featuring porcini duck ragout with freshly made fettuccine accented with 1837 Black Tea leaves was an easy choice for me. They had this signature artisanal tomato sauce infused with Singapore breakfast Tea and basil emulsion on top which was a little earthy but it meshed well with the fettuccine. Not bad.
I was going to have at least one slice of cake to finish things off but after checking out the cake counter, I decided to pass (let's just say that these cakes didn't look too appealing at all.). But with my sweet tooth pleading its case, I finally decided to check out their list of tea infused ice-creams and sorbets. They've got a pretty amazing set of ice-creams and sorbet all infused with some of their popular tea.
Singapore Breakfast Tea (Blend of green tea, black tea, vanilla and spices) - Very nice tea flavors, pretty refreshing and soothing for the taste buds.
1837 Black Tea (black tea with ripe berries, anise, caramel and chocolate chips) - A little disappointing with the flavors. There was no sign of the ripe berries and caramel at all. Tasted a little like a chocolate ice-cream with choco chips.
The all-day dining menu was a pleasant surprise. I certainly won't mind coming back again for more.
