True to its words, L'Assiette combines casual dining with authentic French cuisine in a lovely modern setting.
I was all geared up for their homemade white asparagus with sous vide egg, a dish I read from one of the restaurant's online review. But disappointingly, they have just updated their menu and replaced it with the ever-popular cauliflower soup.
The cauliflower soup was quite creamy and comforting but it's no comparison to the combination of white asparagus and sous vide egg, both my favorites (4.5/10).
The other starter was a French green salad with a strong vinaigrette dressing that would have waken anybody up from their sleep just by smelling it (3/10).
But the main courses were a totally different story. The best dish was the tiger prawn puntalette ($173) that was simply marvelous.
The puntalette, a tiny rice-shaped pasta, was prepared like a risotto in this rich and flavorful lobster bisque. That was very delicious (7/10).
The roasted French quail with potato gratin ($233) was another well executed dish. I especially liked the minimal seasoning applied to the quail allowing its natural flavors to stand (6.5/10).
Because of the slightly small portions of our starters and main courses, we were able to have just enough room for one dessert - homemade creme brulee ($68). This was nicely presented like a flower pot although I'd like it to be a little more foamy in the middle rather than its current firm and custard-like texture (4/10).
A final complimentary latte before we went back into the rain again (What a dismal night it was!).
They have the making of a really good modern French bistro here. Just need to iron out a few things in the starter and dessert department. I will be keeping a close eye on this one.
