Wuzhuang Link CentralWalk 吳莊 领展中心城店 (Shenzhen, CHINA) ★★★☆☆

After an hour and a half of non-stop action at Meland, it was finally time for my early dinner and I have already settled on the venue when I touched down in Futian.

Recently opened Wuzhuang (吳莊) at Link CentralWalk (領展中心城) has been on Jelloman’s radar since its soft opening last month. I decided to get a first look at this Chinese restaurant famous for its bargain-priced Sichuan fish fillet with pickled vegetables (酸菜魚) and Peking duck (片皮鴨) in her absence to get a better feel on whether to recommend it for our next trip to Shenzhen.

While I was going through the new additions to my game card collection, I couldn’t help but pause for a few moments to soak up the relaxing vibe here.

That was fast.....

Scallion oil chicken (招牌香油雞) (¥45) – I didn’t think the price was for the entire chicken but to my surprise, it has proved to be the case. The chicken was pretty tender and the scallion oil added to the velvety texture. But the chicken was a bit on the small side (I thought not meaty enough) and I just thought the scallion oil (without a spicy kick 🌶️ ) did very little to enhance the flavors of the dish.

Braised lion’s head meatball (揚州獅子頭) (¥39) – I love the deep-fried quail eggs served on the side. That was a nice touch. The meatball itself…..

This was one of the few times that I had the lion’s head meatball without a crispy exterior. But having said that, I thought I enjoyed this version as much as it did with the usual one. The giant meatball was packed with ground pork, egg yolk and water chestnut. It wasn’t exactly bursting with flavors but the sauce did enough to bring it home.

Sautéed choy sum in clay pot (砂煲菜心) (¥28) – I didn’t like the choy sum which has been shredded likely by hand. It did nothing to add to the bite. Why?

Once again, I managed to order too much leaving myself with no room for dessert. But with less than half an hour to go, I would rather spend it on window-shopping than a dessert that probably proves to be too much for one person to handle.
