Pâtisserie Yamakawa (Hong Kong, CHINA) ★★★☆☆

After launching his first branch at Times Square a few years ago, Pâtisserie Yamakawa continued its expansion in Hong Kong by opening two more cake shops in IFC and Harbour City.

Owner-patissier Yoshihiro Yamakawa hails from Uji, Kyoto but has spent time in France learning the art of pastry making. He is best known for incorporating Japanese influences into his French pastries.

Our first choice was an unanimous one - coconut caramel mousse cake. This masterpiece features a fluffy coconut cream, a silky smooth coconut caramel mousse and a sponge cake.

That was super refreshing!

Sometimes it's all about striking a balance. After a rather sweet coconut caramel mousse cake, we thought it's time to find something with a little more acidity and the Passion Love Cake seemed like the perfect match.

The Passion Love Cake features an exterior of raspberry jam and an interior filled with white chocolate mousse, passion fruit puree and a lovely sponge cake.

Pâtisserie Yamakawa's cakes are considered a little expensive even in Hong Kong standard but the quality is well worth the heavy price tag.
