By the time we actually go on this trip, I have almost forgotten why we had to go thru Geneva in the first place. Then things started to come back (it was because of a very special lunch at Restaurant de l'Hôtel de Ville).
Like a lot of cities in Europe, finding the right hotel accommodation in Geneva wasn't easy. Hotel Auteuil Manotel ended up as my final choice but it wasn't an easy one to make. For one, it's too close to Gare de Genève, the city central train station which is normally a no-no for us due to safety concerns. But I failed to come up with something better before we took off on this trip so here we are.
A typical modern European-style room with just enough room on both sides of the bed.
The bathroom was adequately sized too. There was limited supply of bathroom amenities but I have brought my own tooth brush, tooth paste and shampoo like I always do.
They put us on the top floor so apart from the tremendous amount of light, we also have a very spacious balcony all to ourselves.
A sun deck, we call it back in Canada, where we usually come out in the summer to soak up some sunshine.
Hey, perhaps I could sleep here tonight (曬月光)!!!!
Unfortunately, the hotel wasn't tall enough for a clear view of the city.
Directly underneath us is the busy Rue de Lausanne. There are small grocery shops and souvenir stores just across the street, and a couple of restaurants and bars which looked a little too "creepy" for our liking.
My impression of Geneva, based on my 16-hour stay, is that it's a very peaceful city with the usual high standard of cleanliness and comfort one would expect from a Swiss city. It doesn't seem to have the high living standards comparing to say, Zurich (I could be wrong) but then we haven't been here long enough to make an accurate read.
Following our visit to Lake Geneva and Geneva's Old Town, we made "The Broken Chair", a wooden monumental by the Swiss artist Daniel Berset, across the street from the Palace of Nations our final stop in Geneva.
