Little Nugget’s school year is officially over! 🎉 To celebrate this special occasion, we decided to spend a night in Shenzhen — giving ourselves plenty of time to indulge in good food and arcade games.
I hit up social media in search of a hotel that checked all our boxes: close to the metro, and within walking distance of a shopping centre with great variety of food and games. I ended up booking the skyscraping Shenzhen Marriott Hotel Nanshan (深圳中洲萬豪酒店) in the Nanshan district (it's the tall building on the left below).
Shenzhen Marriott Hotel Nanshan is a 6–8 minute walk from Houhai (后海) Station, and sits conveniently next to the spacious Coastal City Shopping Mall (海岸城). Though it would’ve been nice if the hotel and mall were directly connected, the short walk wasn’t a dealbreaker.
After checking in and picking up our room keys at the front desk, we headed straight upstairs. As soon as we opened the door, the blinds automatically rolled up in “welcome mode” — a fun little touch!
I loved the spacious layout and sleek, minimalist design.
The all-white palette paired with light wood tones gave off a warm and cozy vibe.
The bathroom wasn’t as spacious as the one at The St. Regis Shenzhen, but it checked all the right boxes for us.
It featured a decent-sized rainforest-style shower room.
And a separate toilet area right next door.
We had a wonderful night’s sleep, and the next morning, little nugget and I eagerly rolled up the blinds to check out the view — only to find the window a bit smudged. Somebody please clean that window! It kinda ruined the skyline moment.
I dropped around $50 per head for the hotel’s signature breakfast buffet, and I have to say, it was impressive.
They have a station dedicated to Hong Kong-style milk tea (港式奶茶).
Of course, I had to check out a cup myself. Smooth, robust and just the way I like it.
The juice counter wasn’t as prominent as the ones I’ve seen in Bangkok hotels, but it did the trick for us.
There was also an "egg station" whipping up fried eggs, scrambled eggs, and eggs Benedict made to order. Little nugget wasted no time diving in.
As expected, most hotels in Shenzhen include a small dim sum section, and this one didn’t disappoint.
A bakery section, with pineapple buns, croissants, pancakes, egg tarts and more.
My first round included har gow, siu mai, and some bacon which was a bit hit-and-miss.
I forgot about my sunny-side-up eggs on my first round but I didn’t make that mistake again.
They have all kinds of stir-fried vegetables, fried noodles and rice. A bit heavy for breakfast but hey, most folks probably skipped lunch after this.
After enjoying the amazing breakfast, we took a stroll around the hotel lobby. The view from there was much better, thanks to the spotless floor-to-ceiling windows.
Surprisingly though, the best skyscraper view came from the elevator ride — definitely worth a slow ride up and down!
