Yuangu Yunjing MixC World 元古雲境 萬象天地店 (Shenzhen, CHINA) ★★★☆☆

Yuangu Yunjing (元古雲境) is a beloved Chinese restaurant chain known for its neo-Chinese aesthetic where traditional tea culture, seasonal cuisine, and minimalist design come together beautifully. They currently have branches in Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Chengdu, and Shenzhen.

We had about an hour of spare time between our game and dinner, so this was the perfect stop to cross off our list while we were at MixC World (萬象天地).

While the exterior feels subtly modern, the real magic is hidden inside. The dining room is tucked away on a mezzanine level, and the interiors feature light wood, stone elements, gentle flowing water, and soft lighting creating a tranquil, “hidden sanctuary” atmosphere.

After stepping through a dreamy setup of flowing water and steamy visual effects, we finally arrived at the dining area.

I didn’t want to go through the entire menu, so I checked Dianping (大眾點評) for a discounted tea set. As it turns out, they offer an afternoon tea set featuring four seasonal desserts and a choice of tea for two guests (around ¥218). Exactly what we were hoping for.

It didn't take long before a server came over confirming our selection of tea and giving us a quick rundown. We were offered four tea options, and we simply chose one at random — Osmanthus Dew Tea (桂花玉露). We figured it would be the most fragrant of the set.

From that moment on, everything moved like clockwork. The server brought out a couple of glass containers filled with different liquids (presumably tea components), along with a tea pot. Then came the pouring back and forth creating a layered, aromatic blend right in front of us.

To elevate the experience, a bit of dry-ice smoke was added for the visual effects. An ice ball infused with white peach (juice?) was dropped into the mixture, along with a few rose petals for a floral touch. 

Once that finished, we were served a second ice ball to further chill the tea.

Finally, when the smoke cleared and the tea was ready, we were free to start tasting.

After a few generous sips, it was time for the sweet treats. Each dessert was themed around the seasons: Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter (春、夏、秋、冬).

Spring · Jasmine tea mousse (春 · 茉莉清茶酪) — Served in a bamboo container, this one pairs jasmine tea with green tea. It tasted calm, soothing, and lightly aromatic like taking a slow breath.

Summer · Soybean matcha cake (夏 · 豆乳茶糕) — Rich and comforting, with strong soybean flavor and a bit of matcha in the backdrop.

Autumn · Pomelo mousse (秋 · 柚子酪) — Creamy and pleasantly zesty. The tanginess of pomelo was a nice match with savory pistachio notes. A surprisingly interesting combo.

Winter · Lily bulb tremella cheesecake (冬 · 雪耳百合團子) — By far, the best of the four. It tasted like a Chinese-inspired sweet soup made with silver fungus and lily bulb, only transformed into something soft, fluffy, and cheesecake-like. Extremely soothing to the palate.

Little nugget even enjoyed a sip of the tea and that alone was high praise.

That pretty much wrapped up our afternoon tea session. Next, we just needed to find a dinner spot before it started to get crowded around here.
