We have decided collectively that we would be skipping lunch altogether but a sweet brunch?
After spending a lazy morning walking from Tokyo Station to Ginza, we bumped into Toshi Yoroizuka Kyobashi while we were just about to arrive in the heart of Ginza's shopping area.
The highly popular eponymous pastry shop by Chef Toshi Yoroizuka still carries some of the Christmas decorations from last week.
I really wanted to check out some of the chef's signature pastries including his Mont Blanc for the very first time but no such luck as the ground floor deli cum café was already full.
That left us with no choice except for a visit to his first-floor dessert bar.
I have been a loyal customer to their Midtown dessert bar the last few years. In fact, I managed to pay them a visit the last two times when I was in Tokyo but this was my first time at their flagship store in Kyobashi.
I don't think I needed to read their dessert menu anymore since I knew it by heart.
An amuse bouche of sangria granita to kick off our journey here.
The pastry chef was putting the finishing touch on our "Ukishima" dessert, Chef Yoroizuka's contemporary take on a classic Mont Blanc behind the counter.
A gorgeous made-to-order dessert featuring layers of velvety chestnut cream vermicelli
topped elegantly by some crispy kakaif, a scoop of toasted tea ice-cream and a moon-shaped chocolate cookie.
It was served with a intensely rich matcha ganache.
It looks like that they've made some minor tweaks to the design of this dish. No more red bean paste in the middle. Instead, just some whipped cream and meringue hidden under the chestnut cream. As always, very delicate with a brilliant mix of exciting textures and flavors. I won't consider trying any other desserts here.
It was a pretty busy day with a lot of customers at the counter table so it took nearly an hour for our desserts to be ready. But both mom and little nugget looked very satisfied so that's already worth the long wait.
