As a city, Kobe doesn't possess the great variety of street food and snacks Osaka has to offer so it's important for us to know where to pick our spot. Naruto Taiyaki Honpo (鳴門鯛燒 本舗) is one of those places I knew I had to visit before we finish this trip. They have branches all over Japan (Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Kobe and Fukuoka) but since we already missed out on their famous taiyaki back in Osaka and Kyoto, I had to make sure we didn't miss out for the third time.
Like most taiyaki or fish-shaped waffle cakes out there in the market, Naruto Taiyaki Honpo's taiyaki also comes with red bean paste filling.
This is almost too cute to eat (or to be eaten).
The pastry was surprisingly not as flaky as I first thought but it worked rather well with the red bean paste made from sweetened red beans from Shumari Hokkaido (十勝). It tasted so much better than the one with runny sweet potato custard filling (yellow one on the menu).
