Harrod's Tea Room (Bangkok, THAILAND) ★★★☆☆

Harrod's is best known in the world as London's landmark department store on Knightsbridge but very few people actually knew that the company started off as a small tea merchant back in 1849. Harrod's Tea Room has also been a best kept secret until most recently, when the brand expanded internationally with 5 outposts, 3 of those in Asia including Kuala Lumpur, Tokyo and Bangkok.

Harrod's Tea Room in Bangkok can be found at the always popular Siam Paragon Shopping Center. The spacious two-storey establishment, which boasts a colonial style design, can easily accommodate around 80 customers at the same time.

With one of the toughest table to book during the weekend, Harrod's Tea Room offers the likes of traditional English breakfast, afternoon tea set, egg benedict, fish and chips as well as over 50 other food items.

But we have just enjoyed a wonderful afternoon tea at the neighboring Mandarin Cake Shop no too long ago. Let's not waste any more precious time off my shopping schedule!

I asked the server to wrap this Battenberg Cake for me.

Battenberg Cake, also known as a "Domino Cake" or "Church Window Cake", is a light sponge cake covered with jam. Based on the traditional recipe, it should have a distinctive two-by-two checker pattern, with alternate pink and yellow color.

The cake was nothing to write home about. Perhaps that's the reason why Harrod's is still better known as London's iconic department store rather than a quintessential cake shop.
