It's been a while since I last did something touristic for dinner on a trip. Part of this had something to do with an experience I had back in Frankfurt a while ago that didn't turn out very well. And up until these days, it still stings a bit when I think about it.
But right before this trip, I had a change of heart. I decided to handpick a number of "tourist restaurants" just to prove myself wrong that tourist restaurants don't necessarily mean tourist traps. One of those restaurants was Restaurant Le 360° in beautiful Cannes.
Located on the 7th floor of Radisson Blu 1835 Hotel, Restaurant Le 360° is your typical tourist spot because of its beautiful panoramic view of Cannes.
The view is REALLY as good as advertised.
We tried not to get carried away with the jaw-dropping view and instead focus on the food menu for a moment. Couldn't help but notice the Mediterranean and Asian twist in some of these dishes. Since we were here for the view anyways, I thought let's not waste time on deciding what to eat and simply go for the set dinner, which was well priced at 50 Euros per head. Not bad for a hotel restaurant with this kind of vibe.
Dinner quickly began with some bread and a simple amuse bouche of pumpkin soup.
My first course was salmon tataki with sesame and a small salad. This was served with a sweet soy sauce. I thought the sauce was a tad too sweet but otherwise, a decent starter to kick things off.
Then, things began to fall apart starting with the other starter, lemon and coriander marinated chicken that was served on a bed of cous cous. The combination of chicken, vinegar, green salad and couscous just didn't click for me at all and I found the acidity a bit over the top.
Next up was my main dish, seared cod fish with rock fish soup and clams. This was yet another uninspiring dish with the soup failing to bring out the best from the cod fish (which was very bland).
But the worst dish of the night was yet to come. Meet this rubbery wok-fried beef with seasonal vegetables. We have specifically asked for medium but it was well-done all the way wasting a perfectly decent piece of beef.
Dessert was the lone bright spot on the night because they were both very "safe bets". The raspberry panna cotta with red berries sorbet was spot on. Very refreshing with a good balance of sweetness and acidity, which was perfect to close things out.
Less successful was the rum baba, with vanilla ice-cream and pecans (but still much better than most savory dishes).
Even the magnificent view couldn't save the day for us on this night as there were way too many glaring mistakes from our starters and main dishes.
