Hyatt Regency Bangkok Sukhumvit (Bangkok, THAILAND)

Like our trip to Singapore last month, we're taking the evening flight to Bangkok after work. But after these two trips with very similar flight schedule, I'm not so sure if I would ever fly out on an evening flight ever again. Yes, it saves me some annual leave from work but it's really draining.

Anyways.....I was kind of looking forward to this trip because of the hotel we booked. Out of a number of (relatively) new hotels in Bangkok, we ended up picking Hyatt Regency Sukhumvit ahead of Rosewood, Waldorf Astoria and Nikko. Let's hope we've made a wise decision over this one.

The hotel lobby wasn't bad. That's a good start, right?

The layout of the room was actually pretty good. Well appointed with lots of space for little guy to run around.

I wish the color tone could be a little brighter but I could live with grey and beige together.

While I could live with the color combination, there were some peculiar design ideas in the room that really left something to be desired. Most noticeably, the square-shaped table at the corner there. The obvious question being.....why!? It's taking up a great deal of space and worse part of all, it doesn't mess with the rest of the furniture. And why square shaped (for mahjong)?

The bathroom was partitioned with sliding doors (to entrance and bed). That's fairly common these days.

The design of the bathroom was quite standard. A separate shower room and there's a bath tub placed in the middle of the bathroom.

The next morning, I went to check out the view with great anticipation. But just a very boring city view.

The swimming pool was a bit small for my liking and it's really dark thanks to all the trees lined up on both sides of the pool.

You don't get the feeling that it's an infinity pool (but it is, sort of).

There's a well-equipped gym next to the pool. Too bad I didn't get to enjoy it.

Breakfast was not included and it's not cheap (~HK$250 per room).

Interesting Chinese decor in the breakfast hall that was pretty much empty on the day we visited. I guess for HK$250, there are much better options out there in Bangkok. For one, there's this place called Coffee Club located on the second floor of the hotel building.

The only bright spot of the breakfast buffet was perhaps their juice bar. You can pretty much get any fruit in liquid form here.

The rooftop bar was supposed to be one of the hotel's main attractions.

But the view didn't really blow me away. Not even close.

I guess, if there's one advantage I see from staying here, it's its direct access to Nana Station. It's about a 5-minute walk via these bridges. But is location enough to bring me back? That's the million dollar question...
