Greater China Club 大公館 (Hong Kong, CHINA) ★★★★☆

It's been more than a while since I last visited Greater China Club (大公館), the Chinese fine dining restaurant at D2 Place in Lai Chi Kok. It was Jelloman's birthday today but since our little one has been sick all week, we decided to do something simple instead and I thought Greater China Club would be the perfect fit.

Didn't realize that their business was so good that they had to put us in the lounge where it also doubles as an Italian restaurant. It's a little weird to have dim sum on these round tables.

Steamed shrimp dumplings (晶瑩鮮蝦餃) - One thing I know I can always trust is Greater China Club's wrapper on their dumplings. Perfectly thin working well with the shrimp and rest of the filling.

Steamed pumpkin dumplings with crab meat and vegetables (蟹肉南瓜菜苗餃) - Thought the crab meat tasted a little more like egg white but the pumpkin and spinach were quite tasty. Not bad.

Steamed pork dumplings with lobster and bamboo charcoal powder (竹炭龍蝦燒賣) - Instead of pork, these siu mai were made with minced lobster meat.

The wrapper was actually made with bamboo charcoal and they also threw in some gold leaf there on top for good measure. Pretty tasty.

Deep-fried seafood rolls with avocado (香脆牛油果海鮮卷) - One of my favorite dish this afternoon.

Very crispy and I loooove avocado.

Steamed rice flour rolls with prime Iberico pork (蜜汁叉燒腸粉) - Apart from all their dumplings (well, most of them...), I also love the rice flour rolls here coz they have been so good since Day One. This one with Iberico pork is a must-do.

Steamed rice flour rolls with Yunnan wild mushroom (雲南鮮野菌腸粉) - I thought even better was this one with Yunnan wild mushrooms. Very nice bite from the mushrooms adding to the pillowy texture of the rice rolls.

Steamed turnip pudding with convoy (瑤柱蒸魚型蘿蔔糕) - Funny they said pudding instead of turnip cake but the truth was, it's really soft (almost like a puree). If you don't need to impress the kids like I did, I suggest don't bother with this one.

Steamed minced beef ball with dried mandarin peel (陳皮牛肉球) - Another one for my little one. He looooves his meat balls!

Wok-fried rice noodles with beef and homemade XO sauce (山珍XO醬乾炒牛河) - Of course, I won't leave without getting my favorite wok-fried rice noodles with beef. This was as good as ever, with the usually good "wok hei".

Jelloman wasn't too upset about the simple birthday celebration this afternoon. After all, our little one is still a little under the weather so we will probably fix another date for a more fancy meal.
