Patisserie a Terre (Osaka, JAPAN) ★★★☆☆

I have to admit, I am a big fan of Takashimaya's "weekly corner" concept. It's a great platform for small cake shops to showcase their talent in the designated space provided by the famed department store (Most of the time, in their food hall). This week in Osaka, they welcome Patisserie a Terre (ア・テール) , a French cake shop from Ikeda (池田), a small town on the northwestern part of the city

There's a nice story about the little French dessert shop right here.

They only have Japanese wording on the labels so I guess I have to come up with my own names here.

Caramel meringue tart (432 yen) - A little like a macaron ice-cream sandwich but instead of macaron shells, they had two circular meringue shells holding a bit of caramel cream in the middle. Toppings of hazelnut provided some different texture to the mix.

I thought not bad.

Coconut and mango (519 yen) - I certainly enjoyed this one a bit more. The cake itself primarily consisted of a soft coconut mousse topped by pieces of mango. There were creamy fillings of orange and passion fruit in the middle to provide some lovely acidity to match the sweetness of the coconut. This is definitely a good one in the dog days of summer.
