The Cannery Seafood Restaurant (Los Angeles, USA) ★★★☆☆

After a long 12-hour flight, we finally arrived in Los Angeles a little after 8pm. Then came some hiccups from our driver which put us in a bad situation and we ended up showing up at my best pal, St Paul's waterfront house just a few ticks before midnight. Talk about having a really long day. And thanks to my usual jetlag problems, I didn't get a good night of sleep so I decided to take it easy on our first day in La-la-land.

We took a relaxing drive down to Newport Beach and first up on our agenda was a late lunch at The Cannery Restaurant - Seafood of the Pacific

This is a place known for its seaside location and fresh seafood.

It was a gorgeous day out there so what better to do than hitting the terrace to enjoy some sunshine?

New England clam chowder (USD$12) - The Patriots and clam chowder are two of my favorite things from New England. This was a pretty nice clam chowder they've got here with lots of clams and salmon. Very creamy and very tasty.

Caesar salad (USD$14) - Everyone wanted some romaine lettuce so a bowl of Caesar salad was the perfect cure. I would probably like to see a little less salad dressing and parmesan but it was pretty decent.

Crab cake (USD$16) - One of the best, if not the best dish on the afternoon. Crispy on the outside with big lumps of crab meat inside. It was nicely paired with a herb salad and creme fraiche dijon mustard sauce on the side. I didn't remember why we didn't end up getting a second order of this beautiful dish.

Baked Peruvian scallops (USD$18) - I was expecting a little more out of this dish. While I love the uni butter, panko, tobiko and lime, the scallops just weren't nearly fresh and meaty enough.

Lobster roll (USD$32) - It was supposed to be a signature dish here with a classic top load bun, lemon old bay aioli and tons of French fries but just a borderline pass from me I'm afraid.

Fish and Chips (USD$21) - These were made with Pacific cod fish, which was the good news but the seasoning was a little over the top (salty in my standard). The pickled cucumber salad and French fries were fine.

Following lunch, we decided to bring our little one down to Newport Beach and spend a relaxing, fun-filled afternoon out on the beach.
