Din Tai Fung (Los Angeles, USA) ★★☆☆☆

After four consecutive days of having western food, mom finally threw in the white towel requesting for some Chinese food this afternoon. Since Din Tai Fung (鼎泰豐) at South Coast Plaza was the only reliable source for Chinese food in the area, we decided to drive down there to get ourselves our first Chinese meal on this trip.

We didn't get our table until after a long 30-minute wait so I had all the time in the world to steal a thing or two from these guys behind the glass wall. Surprisingly, the majority of the chefs here was non-Chinese which was a little unusual.

Hot and sour soup - Not a bad dish to start off the meal. The mix of spicy and sour flavors was the perfect way to wake our taste buds up.

Chicken noodle soup - This was ordered for our little one. The noodle wasn't particularly tasty but the chicken fillet was.

Pork xiao long bao - Pretty decent but the broth didn't really taste as good as the one we had in Taipei. Result of using different ingredients?

Vegetarian dumplings - Surprisingly more popular than the xiao long bao.

Sauteed broccoli - Pretty crunchy the way I like it.

Somehow I never seem to enjoy dining at Din Tai Fung unless I was in Taipei because these overseas branches could never match the same quality offered at the "original" Din Tai Fung's in its homeland.
