L'Eclair de Génie (Hong Kong, CHINA) ★★★☆☆

When L'Eclair de Génie launched their first two stores in Hong Kong last December, it quickly sparked a social media frenzy with all its colorful and multi-flavored éclairs. The brand was very successful in transforming the traditional French pastry into something exciting and one-of-a-kind; and that was enough to steal the hearts of many dessert lovers in the city. While its success in the first month has been very encouraging, the question remains whether it can sustain the hype in a city where its dessert lovers have very short memory and are best known for their change of heart.

Well, I decided to come and check things out myself. Couldn't help to notice that the huge lineups were no longer there but since I haven't had anything sweet all day, I decided to take a flyer on one of their two new éclairs tailormade for Chinese New Year.

(N°133) Eclair Kumquat - Just in the nick of time for Chinese New Year season. Kumquat in Cantonese is called "Gam Gat". The word "Gam" rhymes with the Cantonese word for gold, while "Gat" rhymes with the Cantonese word for luck.

This is very nice. Very smooth and rich orange cream in the middle and love that kumquat confit and glaze on top. Very good balance of sweetness and acidity. I like it~
