L'Eclair de Génie (Hong Kong, CHINA) ★★★☆☆

The recent launch of L'Eclair de Génie in Hong Kong has sparked a mini frenzy on the social media and it has promptly sent every sweet toothed Hongkongers scrambling to Pacific Place the past few weeks. The demand for these wonderfully creative éclairs are obviously very high at the moment and that explained why I had to wait almost half an hour for my turn to be served at their Pacific Place location late last week. But why wait half an hour when the same tasty éclairs are just waiting for you at the new Prince's Building location!?

I got a tip from a few blogger friends about this new location at the Prince's Building and they all said that it's drawing a much lesser crowd. That was precisely the case when I arrived this afternoon at 3pm. Zero lineup!

At this hour, I really wasn't expecting that they still have their full range of flavors sitting around. A closer look reviewed that only 4 flavors remained available: matcha, raspberry, chestnut and vanilla (I think it's vanilla).

Chestnut ($45) - Surprisingly not as sweet as I thought. Unlike most of their flavors, it doesn't have much toppings other than two caramelized chestnuts on top. The choux and chestnut cream filling are both very nice but the combination of flavors just wasn't that appealing to the palates.

Matcha Bambou ($38) - Much better than the chestnut flavor. Topped with a green tea icing and some choco "bamboo", this also features a very delicate green tea cream filling that was both rich and smooth.

I still think that the chocolate praline and lemon yuzu flavors are two of the best ones around here.
