Issaya La Pâtisserie (Bangkok, THAILAND) ★★★★☆

Issaya La Pâtisserie, a lovely pop-up cafe and cake shop situated on the fifth floor of Central Embassy, is the brainchild of Iron Chef Ian Kittichai and Chef “Paper” Arisara Chongphanitkul. We found it to be a great place to experience modern French bakery with an impressive Thai twist.

They have an ice-cream counter here with a small selection of homemade ice-cream and sorbet highlighted by exotic flavors such as coriander and cucumber, Kluay Buad Chee (Thai-style bananas in coconut milk) and tamarind.

But our attention was focused solely on their pastries and they were all pretty fabulous.

Who said shopping and eating do not consume energy? I am so tired and this is only our second day in Bangkok. I need a sofa (bed) badly.

I found myself quite attracted to this dessert menu. It kinda looked like my notebook from my kindergarten days.

More like a sketch book.....with drawings of different desserts.

Time for a mocktail before we turned our attention to our beloved cakes.

The Monsieur kim-hun (฿150) draws inspiration from the Thai mango sticky rice. The pandan flavored choux creme was spongy and delicate while the fresh mango and tapioca pearl helped to create the texture reminiscing of the famous Thai dessert.

Is Sai-sai (฿150) Chef "Water"'s vision of a Thai pudding with coconut topping? The color tone of green and white certainly matches the theme.

This was in fact coconut mousse filled with kra-cheek (sweetened shredded coconut) and
wrapped beautifully with a banana leaf. A very nice Thai twist right there.

I didn't have time to try the kluay-keak (฿165) or caramelized banana eclair which was nicely wrapped with an old newspaper but it looked yummy as well~

During this Bangkok trip, we had the pleasure of sampling different pastries from a handful of local pâtisseries including Let Them Eat Cake, Moonne, Audrey Café Glamour etc. but it was Issaya La Pâtisserie who was ahead of the curve in both the design and execution of their delicious pastries. I can't wait to come sometime soon.
