Market (Paris, FRANCE) ★☆☆☆☆

In Paris, our dining experiences have always been divine but this one really left a bad taste in our mouth. Especially that it's a Jean Georges establishment, we simply expected more out of it.

Things got off to a rocky start for us. After we were seated, we were offered the food and wine menu. We just got off the plane so decided to order quickly hoping to finish early. We closed our menus signaling the staff that we were ready but no one ever came up to serve. After 15-20 minutes, we pretty much knew that no one would care to come and ask. And so we tried to grab someone, anyone but without much success. Finally when we did, he said he's not our server. I was a little upset so I told him to please introduce us to our server coz I didn't think we have met.

The restaurant was a little understaffed which I could sympathize but if it came down to sacrificing customer satisfaction, then there's a management problem there.

Now back to the dishes we ordered for a moment...

Our night started with a pan-seared crab cake served with avocado, grapefruit and ginger jus. The portion would be considered generous and it's probably the only dish with passing grade the entire night (5/10).

The ravioli with ricotta cheese, tomato sauce and herbs was bland and not nearly warm enough (3.5/10).

Fresh angel hair with shitake mushrooms and asparagus was next and it was a dish that I could probably do better in our kitchen. Again very bland and underwhelming overall (3.5/10).

Now the grilled Bavière beef tenderloin with glazed carrots and miso mustard. I have specifically requested for medium and look what I got. A total waste of a perfectly good tenderloin (2.5/10).

To sum up this dining experience at Market, Paris.....

Well, apart from placing orders, the rest of the service could also be summed up as lousy (or really lousy). Water was not topped throughout the night and we had to do it ourselves. Pacing was super slow. We waited about 45 minutes to an hour for our starters. And then my beef tenderloin which was ordered medium came totally well done. All these were totally inexcusable at a restaurant of this class.

Asking for the bill was a bit of a challenge too, as everyone was so busy flying around the dining room. We had to literally grab someone (again) and thankfully we did. It was a horrible experience. A horror story. Not only was the service non-existing, the quality of food was also uninspiring to say the least.

(In case you wonder why the one-star experience for such a disappointing encounter. Well, that's for turning on the lights!)
