Le Café de Joël Robuchon (Hong Kong, CHINA) ★★★☆☆

Joël Robuchon's L’Atelier restaurant series was created largely for the Japanese market in the early 2000's. The concept was an instant hit in Tokyo and since then they have replicated it to other Asian cities including Hong Kong.

Last Christmas, when they opened their first Le Salon de Joël Robuchon across the harbour at the Elements Shopping Mall, I was rather curious about that decision. Why didn't they pick the more popular Tsim Sha Tsui district?

Eight months later, Le Café de Joël Robuchon finally landed in Harbour City.

They can always be counted on for a great selection of sandwiches, bakery products, pastries and cakes.

Behind the take-away counter is their café which also doubles as a tea salon during the afternoon. The décor here is contemporary chic featuring the usual lush red velvet sofas and black marble tables.

I have been tracking their opening date for a while now. Can't wait for a sneak preview.

We had a similar crepe at Le Salon de Joël Robuchon at Elements and thought it was way too cheesy. This one with prosciutto ham, gruyére cheese and egg turned out to be almost perfect.

I am a big fan of Robuchon's homemade French fries. They always seem to have something interesting and funky to go with their fries and this time around, it's a wasabi honey mustard. Sublime~

Okay, I almost forgot to mention about the salmon and sea urchin burger. It was delicious.

The salmon fillet was deep fried to perfection. My only complaint was that there was really no sign of the promised sea urchin. Where did that go?

Finally, a fairly decent iced mint tea with mandarin sorbet and freshly diced aloe before we settled our bill.

Apart from the takeaway counter for bakery and cakes, they also have a separate takeaway counter for crepes and ice-cream cones. Check out this lovely ice-cream flower. Not cheap at $138 but it sure looks pretty.
