Casa do Leão (Lisbon, PORTUGAL) ★★☆☆☆

Our Lisbon trip got off to a torrid start. We followed our original plan of visiting the Castelo de São Jorge on the first day but with rain pouring heavily, the relaxing uphill walk from our hotel turned into a disaster

Soaky wet, we finally arrived at the entrance of the castle. Oh yes, we have a lunch to attend at Casa do Leão.

Situated inside the walls of Castelo de São Jorge, Casa do Leão is a restaurant serving Portuguese cuisine in a traditional setting. The odd thing about dining here is that you have to purchase an entry ticket to the castle first. The ticket would be discounted with a booking at Casa do Leão (4.5 euros) but yet it's not free.

In case you are wondering, there's no stunning view available from the window seats.

The dining room of Casa do Leão has Traditional Portuguese written all over it with an open fireplace, vaulted roof and tiled walls.

The bread here was very good but even better were the three different kinds of butter.

An amuse bouche of white beans with codfish in a vinegar sauce and sautéed mushroom kicked things off for us, much to our chagrin (2.5/10).

Just one starter to share between the two of us - seafood and fish soup (4/10).

Our first main course was a deep fried octopus with tomato rice. The lack of flavors was really disappointing (3/10).

Better was our second main course, a crispy cod fish cake with bean rice (5.5/10).

A little dessert courtesy of the chef in the form of two mini pastel de nata.

We didn't have to spend lunch at Casa do Leão in order to enjoy this wonderful view of the city.
