The Ritz-Carlton Moscow (Moscow, RUSSIA)

Finding a hotel with the perfect location is so important even if you're an expert traveler and even more so when your travel destination is Moscow!

We stayed at The Ritz Carlton Moscow for 3 nights during our recent 9-day trip to Russia and from what it has to offer in terms of location, it's really unbeatable. It's right across the street from the Red Square and Kremlin with other top attractions not too far away and on top of that, it also provides free wifi connection (although we found most decent hotels and restaurants in Moscow do offer it for their guests.).

I had no idea how old this hotel was but judging from the design of the hotel lobby, it's at least 20-30 years I assume?

We were offered a room on the third floor and on our very first night, we already noticed noises from the streets. The sound proof system did not seem to work as well as it should. Our friends also complained about water leaking through their windows when it was raining. On our second night, things started to fall apart when we were awaken by noises from our neighbours at 6am. They were first chatting loudly in front of our room (sounded more like yelling) and then later inside their room. We called the reception requesting them to put a stop to this and they insisted that they would send their security personnel to take care of it immediately. However, waiting for more than half an hour, help never came, not in the form of a person nor a phone call to quiet our neighbors down. (If they have done either, we would have overheard it for sure). At the end, we decided to get up and have a very early breakfast which luckily for us started at 7am.

Selection from the breakfast buffet wasn't great and to complicate things, there were 2-3 large tour groups that packed the entire breakfast hall. There were huge lineups left and right and food started running out at a rate much faster than staff could replenish them.

Haven't gone through all the negative incidents during our 3-night stay, would I come back for another visit if I ever decide to come see Moscow again? Probably not. Perhaps Hotel National next door or Park Hyatt would be a better choice. But is this a disastrous experience? I won't say so. After all, the hotel is situated at a prime location where most tourist attractions are easily accessible. On top of that, it offers a nice mix of restaurant and bar in-house highlighted by O2 Lounge on the top floor, with a stunning view of Red Square and Kremlin. That, by itself, is already worth the price tag.
