The Athens Gate Hotel (Athens, GREECE)

We stayed at the Athens Gate Hotel for 3 nights to kick off our Greece and Italy trip and it was a perfect stay, well almost. We took the metro directly from the airport to the 'Acropolis' station and then a comfortable 5-minute walk to the hotel.

At first, we had a little bit of trouble locating the hotel as it was hidden among a few car rental companies but finally a bell person came out to greet us.

Room
We paid a little extra to get the superior room with view to the Temple of Zeus and the view was exactly like the photo posted in the hotel website. The balcony was huge although we didn't really use it apart from a phototaking session on our first night. The room was a bit plain but yet quite comfortable. The bed was okay.

Breakfast
Breakfast was included and although it might not be the best one ever, the view from the breakfast table was sensational. Of course, we got less excited about it after a couple of days.

Service
Service was superb. We were immediately greeted with open arms the moment we walked into the hotel. The hotel staff handed us some iced tea to cool us off while we waited for our turn to be served at reception. There was a problem with our balcony door and once they received our call, a technician arrived at our door almost instantly and had it fixed in about 5 minutes.

We booked a few popular restaurants such as Strofi and Spondi and the front desk was nice enough to help us re-confirm the bookings by phone. All in all, excellent service and we really could not ask for more.

Internet
There were 2 little computers on the ground floor and they even had a printer hooked up so we managed to print a few maps out here and there. There's no lineup for the computers despite that the hotel was quite full during our stay. Perhaps everyone brought a laptop.

Location
The hotel is located right between the Acropolis and the Temple of Zeus. Other tourist attractions are also within walking distance. We didn't spend a dime on transportation other than the night we had dinner at Spondi where it was truly an adventure/nightmare with our taxi driver. I will leave that story to my review of Spondi later. But back to location, it's great! We did a lot of research here and just couldn't come up with a hotel that offers more.

It would probably deserve full marks if not for the rather boring interior design of the room.
